COGNITIONS for CASC

......from Potential to Performance

Communication is an art and a science. It is based on some fundamental principles which if followed well can lead to effective dialogue between individuals. These principles and skills can be learnt and mastered to be part of our interview style. Sometimes even small and subtle shifts can have brilliant consequences. And believing that such shifts are possible is part of the process.

‘Cognitions for CASC’ is a full-day intensive training course for psychiatrists. It aims to enable delegates to acquire, develop and master a range of advanced communication skills that are tested in the CASC component of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Membership examination.

The course will help delegates develop a toolbox of skills that can be applied to a range of different clinical scenarios. By focusing on these individual skills, we believe delegates will be able to enhance their performance in any ‘station’. A range of CASC scenarios will be used with experienced professional role-players to ensure candidates learn what to expect in the real exam.

In order to maximise the benefits for delegates and ensure an effective learning environment, we will be booking only 8 delegates per course day.

Who should attend?

The course is aimed at psychiatrists preparing for the CASC examination. Attending the course early on in your preparations will be more beneficial: the longer there is for you to practise using the insights gained on the course, the more effectively you will be able to change your interview style. The course will also be beneficial for those wishing to develop and refine their communication skills for the purpose of Work Place Based Assessments and everyday clinical practice.
